No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

I’ve said a number of times over the history of the blog that I am by nature far more leaning towards the Beta end of the spectrum than the Alpha. I’ve progressed in recent years to picking up more of the Alpha traits and attitude, though I’m hardly a dark triad type personality by nature.
However today I’ve learned that someone I was nice to and even worked hard at trying to be fair and balanced with, has decided to repay me for that kindness. I’ll be wearing a suit again.
I feel myself snapping this time though. I don’t think I’ll be nearly as nice again. This isn’t even a dating / relationships / game thing. I’m just pissed off that if you offer someone half a loaf of bread that they will sue you for the whole thing.
And yes some of that anger is self directed. I’ll be changing a few things towards the direction of the use of red lightsabers.
And I don’t give a shit what anyone thinks about that male or female.

    Whatever happened, sorry brother.

Oh why is the suit being forced on you? Does all this mystery have to do with HIPAA or just good taste?

  3. Flahute says:

I too learned this to the hard way. Always look out for your best interests, never put someone else's interests above yours. A win-win situation is still advantageous to you, but if there is nothing in it for you, don't do it.

If you are in a position of authority, never be nice/altruistic, because you are more likely to be perceived by the other as their servant rather than their benefactor. Also, once you show your weakness, you have willingly given up your alpha status, and another will inevitably rise up to challenge and potentially topple you.

Maybe the following is relevant, I'm not sure, but it is solid advice nonetheless.

From "The Prince" by Machiavelli [emphasis mine]:
"Upon this a question arises: whether it be better to be loved than feared or feared than loved? It may be answered that one should wish to be both, but, because it is difficult to unite them in one person, is much safer to be feared than loved, when, of the two, either must be dispensed with. Because this is to be asserted in general of men, that they are ungrateful, fickle, false, cowardly, covetous, and as long as you succeed they are yours entirely; they will offer you their blood, property, life and children, as is said above, when the need is far distant; but when it approaches they turn against you. And that prince who, relying entirely on their promises, has neglected other precautions, is ruined; because friendships that are obtained by payments, and not by greatness or nobility of mind, may indeed be earned, but they are not secured, and in time of need cannot be relied upon; and men have less scruple in offending one who is beloved than one who is feared, for love is preserved by the link of obligation which, owing to the baseness of men, is broken at every opportunity for their advantage; but fear preserves you by a dread of punishment which never fails."

Although a man in a good suit is indeed very attractive, I'm sorry to hear that you're forced to wear one for whatever ordeal you're dealing with. Wishing you luck.

On the positive side…it's almost the weekend. Funny about beta men, we get pissed off vowing never to be trod on again….until the next time.
Trouble is acting like a full blown alpha just makes us feel like jerks.

  6. Athol Kay says:

I really can't go into detail on this one sorry. Very complicated, work related and I will be fine.

Yeah I know that stuff Flahute. That's exactly what I mean by the red lightsaber.

  7. I must be a nice guy. I love being at home.

Sorry about the work BS. Evolution is obviously still working out some critical kinks.

  8. Athol Kay says:

Perhaps some aggressive natural selection is in order.

  9. Anonymous says:

I hope that things work out well fro you, Athol.
Personally, I have decided that aggressive natural selection via late-term abortions (In the 1560+ week range) would be a good thing to get the world back on-kilter.

    See – I don't fear…

  10. Athol Kay says:

The jerk didn't even show up to contest it….
